Art and About City of Sydney

Pigs Will Fly
Il Porcellino, resides in front of the Sydney Eye Hospital on Macquarie St. As Part of the Sydney Statue's Project, Art and About 2010 this Darling Boar has wings.
The wings have been embellished using recycles banners, and oil skin. The high lustre of the banners mimic the opulence of 17th century Baroque, where Il Porcellino was first conceived. While the oilskin is a reference to 1980’s Australiana, Driza-bone and Linda Jackson’s outback.
Clarissa Torrigiani of Florence, Italy donated Il Porcellino in 1968. With this in mind, the textile has a distinct Italian, 60’s flavour.  The feathers comprise of overlayed discs, a technique developed by Valentino throughout the 60’s. These discs are appliquéd in a Pucci-esque pattern with oversized flat sequins a signature of the decade.
You can view Il Porcellino each day from 10am to 6pm durinf October 2010. Or join a tour of the Sydney Statues Tour, see the following url for details.
